Massage Contraindications

Know when our services could be a health risk to you or your therapist!

Although we promote health, occasionally, there are times when it is not advised for you to receive a service due to a condition or situation.  Please read the following information.  If you have any questions whether you should wait for your service, please do not hesitate to call 610-765-1148

RESCHEDULE or DO NOT SCHEDULE if any of the following pertain to you: CALL WITH QUESTIONS 610-765-1148

  • Blood clots

  • Fever

  • Flu shot within 3 days

  • Giving blood within 1 week

  • Sunburn

  • Hemophilia

  • Hemorrhage

  • Contagious or infection condition (COLD, FLU, SKIN INFECTION OR CONTAGIOUS RASH)

  • Diabetes with complications (gangrene, advanced heart or kidney disease or very unstable high blood pressure)

  • Acute conditions requiring medical attention including anaphylaxis, appendicitis, cerebrovascular accident (CVA), diabetic coma, insulin shock, epileptic seizure, myocardial infarction (MI), pheumothorax, atelectasis, severe asthmatic attack, status asthmaticus or syncope.

  • Advanced kidney, respiratory or liver failure (a modified treatment may be possible with a physician's consent)

  • Some highly metastatic cancers not judged terminal

  • Weight exceeding 300 lbs. (not being discriminatory - it is the weight our tables will hold)

  • Less than 13 weeks pregnant

The following are LOCAL CONTRAINDICATIONS - massage can be performed with caution and avoiding areas of concern.  CALL WITH QUESTIONS  610-765-1148

  • Varicose veins

  • Undiagnosed lumps or bumps

  • Pregnancy (okay after 13 weeks without medical issues)

  • Bruising

  • Cuts

  • Abrasions

  • Sunburn

  • Undiagnosed pain

  • Inflammation, including arthritis


Massage can only take place once it has been approved before your session in writing by your Physician.

  • Cardio-vascular conditions (thrombosis, phlebitis, hypertension, heart conditions)

  • Any condition already being treated by a medical practitioner

  • Oedema

  • Psoriasis or eczema

  • High blood pressure

  • Osteoporosis

  • Cancer

  • Nervous or psychotic conditions

  • Heart problems, angina, those with pacemakers

  • Epilepsy

  • Diabetes

  • Bell’s palsy, trapped or pinched nerves

The list of INDICATIONS FOR MASSAGE is extensive, as you would imagine, but here are some common ones to help you to understand the principle:

  • Stress

  • Relaxation

  • Back Pain

  • Neck or Shoulder Pain

  • Muscle Spasm

  • Muscle Weakness

  • Workout Recovery

  • Whiplash

  • Nerve Injuries

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

  • Sciatica

  • Poor Circulation

  • Tendonitis

  • Arthritis

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Constipation

  • Headaches and Migraines

  • Sinus Issues
